Programme objectives

The design of the course of studies follows the recommendation of the German Psychological Society. On the basis of a fundamental scientific training in psychology, it equips students with a basic grounding in health, rehabilitation science, diagnostics and psychotherapy and the requisite knowledge from neighbouring disciplines in the social and educational sciences as well as basic knowledge related to the international system of preventive health care and rehabilitation.

In particular, students build knowledge and expertise relevant to the professional, social, medical and psychological aspects of dysfunctions which in their interplay affect participation in everyday life (participation disorders).

Basic diagnostic competence, abilities in psychosocial intervention and the performance of psychological tasks in welfare, education and health care are among the particular qualifications and tasks. At the same time, economic, political and administrative relationships are also studied. Through their active participation in the programme, students acquire theoretical knowledge, analytical skills and methodological competence.

Degree Course Content

Alongside foundational subjects in psychology and methodological principles, the particular emphasis of the specialisation in the Psychology of Rehabilitation is reflected in a strong focus on applied relevance to the fields of “rehabilitation” and “clinical psychology”.

Four 4-week-long internships are incorporated into the standard period of study. Upon application these can be combined into longer blocks and/or be completed abroad.

Admission requirements

A higher education entrance qualification is a general prerequisite for admittance to the programme of study. International applicants must provide proof of educational qualifications that permit study in Germany (school-leaving certificate, certificate of university attendance).

The DAAD database on admission requirements allows international students to check whether they meet the requirements for the degree programme of their choice in Germany.

The language of instruction is German. Foreign applicants must prove they have adequate knowledge of German. Evidence of the necessary German language skills can be provided in the form of:

  • Goethe Certificate C2
  • DSD II
  • DSH II
  • TestDaF (minimun 16 total points & minimun level 3 in the examination modules)
  • TELC Deitsch C1 Hochschule
  • ÖSD C2
  • evidence of having passed the entrance examination at a preparatory college

Applicants who are unable to fulfil the specified admission requirements may contact a preparatory college (‘Studienkolleg’). These specifically prepare foreign applicants for a course of study in Germany. Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences does not have its own preparatory college. The state-run preparatory college responsible for our institution is located at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Köthen.
An overview of all preparatory colleges in Germany can be found here.
In Magdeburg you can find a private preparatory college: Europäisches Studienkolleg der Wirtschaft (ESKW)
