Mosaik h2 – network for protection against discrimination

The Mosaik h2 network for protection against discrimination is a voluntary group of people who are committed jointly and in solidarity to combating discrimination at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. The name Mosaik symbolises a combination of diverse shapes, colours and sizes, from which a single picture is created. The Mosaik h2 network exemplifies a commitment to a university life that is free from discrimination and to constructive discourse for fair solutions and for diversity that is an intrinsic part of our society.

The network is open to all interested parties and is particularly aimed at the members of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences. Both current and former students and employees from all status groups, all departments and all levels are invited to become involved. The network welcomes everyone, irrespective of age, sex (gender identity), sexual orientation, religion or world view, social and/or ethnic origin, (chronic) illness and/or disability, level of education and individual lifestyle, who is prepared to commit themselves to the network and wishes to support and actively practice the basic concept of “anti-discrimination”.

An introduction to Mosaik h2 - the network for protection against discrimination

Who are we?

Students, teachers and employees from different departments and administrative areas from both campuses

We discuss discrimination together, organise events, raise awareness of topics relating to discrimination in studies, teaching, research and everyday life at the university. We are supportive of people who have experienced or witnessed discrimination.

All interested parties are welcome: simply send an email to receive an invitation to our next meeting (usually on Zoom) or you can arrange to meet us in person for an initial meeting.

What do we want?

•    to act against discrimination,
•    to develop the corresponding structures,
•    to be creative and put ideas into practice,
•    to make the university an even safer place for everyone who may be subjected to discrimination.
•    We listen to people who experience or have experienced discrimination and support them to find the    right people to speak to.

Aims of Mosaik h2

Aims of Mosaik h2

The network brings various stakeholders at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences together who play a part individually and as multipliers and who actively support the establishment of a discrimination-free teaching, learning and working atmosphere at the university. By reflecting on our own attitudes and the effect of structures at the university and through our own actions, we seek to avoid and prevent and uncover discrimination. Discussion processes are initiated through a variety of activities. This seeks to raise awareness and through it a transformation in thinking in the university arena.

The members of the network show solidarity with people who have had experience of discrimination and defend them from attacks from outside. The aim is, ideally, to prevent discrimination incidents and to offer support through initial, supportive and low-threshold referral advice to competent bodies. In this respect, the network is an initial point of contact in the university that is made highly visible due to publicity work. The members can highlight possible courses of action but are themselves expressly not active in an advisory capacity.

The members of the network openly commit themselves to the network and to maintaining protection against discrimination. They represent the values of protection against discrimination and themselves act according to these principles (code of conduct).

What the network stands for (= code of conduct)

The members of the network openly and, if they so wish, visibly commit themselves to the network and to maintaining protection against discrimination. They represent the values of protection against discrimination (code of conduct) and themselves act according to these principles.

The network stands for:
•    the aim of living together in peace and without discrimination,
•    cosmopolitanism and tolerance. However, tolerance ends where the basic rights and/or general       human rights of others are infringed upon. Ideologies that are anti-democratic or otherwise contrary to the basic values of the constitution are not tolerated.
•    societal cohesion,
•    acceptance of diversity and variety,
•    protection against exclusion and discrimination,
•    confidentiality and solidarity,
•    respect for human dignity,
•    equal rights, social fairness and equality of opportunity,
•    combating the abuse of power,
•    exchange of experiences and referral advice,
•    respectful, sensitive handling of all accounts of discrimination incidents.

Events

The members of the Mosaik h2 network regularly organise different events, e.g. lectures, workshops, film presentations on the subjects that they currently find important. Suggestions are always welcome. Members are free to organise and hold events with others.

If you would like to receive more information and invitations to the forthcoming events, please register for our newsletter. Simply send us an email.
