Welcome to Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences

On Wednesday, 05.10.2023, 81 students of the Department of Economics began their Bachelor studies at the campus in Stendal. The degree programme "Sustainable Business Administration" welcomed 48 first-year students, while the dual degree programme "Business Administration (Dual Track Program)" welcomed 33 first-year students.

The Prorector, Prof. Dr. Volker Wiedemer, opened the introductory event for the new students in the Audimax. Afterwards, the Dean of the Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Fabian Behrendt, welcomed the first-year students (also affectionately known as "Ersties”). The Ersties were both excited and eager to hear the speeches of Prof. Dr. Beate von Velsen-Zerweck, head of the Business Administration dual programme, and Prof. Dr. Burkhard von Velsen-Zerweck and Prof. Dr. Torsten Heitjans, both heads of the Sustainable Business Administration programme.

After the first-year students were familiarised with the course of their programmes, the lecturers of the Department of Economics presented themselves in individual speeches. Following the exciting introductions, the newcomers were able to take a campus tour to learn more about the university location in Stendal and the procedure of their studies.

Later in the afternoon, the traditional matriculation ceremony took place in the "Theater der Altmark", where the Rector, Prof. Dr. Manuela Schwartz, warmly welcomed the first-year students.

Furthermore, the first-year students had the opportunity to network with each other through various events and to get to know their study town Stendal, as well as the university itself. Among other things, an excursion to the Elbauen Park Magdeburg with a visit to the Century Tower and the Magdeburg campus, a joint barbecue and a movie night were on the agenda. The orientation week was rounded off by the Market of Opportunities on the campus in Stendal, where the students were introduced to the activities and projects of the university.

We wish our Ersties a successful start into their studies and an exciting and varied time at our university!
