Department of Engineering and Industrial Design
The Department of Engineering and Industrial Design (IWID) is known for providing a hands-on university education for engineers and (industrial) designers and specialises in application and technology transfer-oriented research and development. The structure of the IWID department, with its organisational combination of traditional engineering disciplines with design skills, particularly features the shared use of relevant resources and the possibilities of interdisciplinarity. This is unique in Germany!
Institute of Electrical Engineering
Five practically oriented study programmes that deal with the interaction between man, machine and the environment are offered by the Institute: for aspiring electrical and systems engineers and graduates who would like to delve more deeply into the sphere of innovative technologies. The areas of focus in teaching and research in the institute are communications technology, automation technology plus electrical energy engineering and renewable energy systems.
Institute of Industrial Design
The study programmes in the Institute of Industrial Design are set up in such a way that students are able to combine areas of focus in Product Design, Capital Goods Design and Interface Design. Multi-specialisation projects enable students to gain valuable double qualifications.
Institute of Mechanical Engineering
Magdeburg is at the heart of a region that has traditionally specialised in mechanical engineering. As long ago as 1823, highly sought-after steam engines were built here. The Institute of Mechanical Engineering continues this tradition and offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering subjects.
Institute of Business Engineering
The Institute of Business Engineering places great importance on practical training in the area where engineering and business intersect. Laboratories with high quality equipment and close contact to regional and national businesses guarantee an excellent preparation for our students’ subsequent careers.
The Institute of Business Engineering is part of the Department of Economics.
