Application

Application deadlines

The deadline for submitting your Erasmus+ application is January 31, 2025 for studies beginning in the winter semester 2025/26 and also if the stay is to begin in the spring/summer semester* 2026.

For stays beginning in the spring/summer semester 2026 you can also submit applications until July 31, 2025. However, you can only get remaining places at the host institutions after January 31. Also, if you submit by the July deadline, it is more likely that you will not be able to receive financial aid.

*Please note that the summer semester at foreign universities usually starts already in January or February. Therefore, it is called spring semester rather than summer semester there.

Documents that you must enclose with the application
  • Certificate of proficiency in your main language of instruction at the desired host university (see also below).
  • Please note that students from the field of communication must also submit a language certificate..
  • Detailed curriculum vitae in tabular form with information on further foreign language skills, study interests and focal points, as well as commitment and interests outside of studies (in the main language of instruction at the desired host university or in English)
  • Letter of motivation (about 1 page) explaining why you would like to study in the chosen country and at the chosen university (personal and professional reasons) and how you are preparing for the study visit (in the main language of instruction at the desired host university or in English).

The letter of motivation should be addressed to your ECTS representativ, as he/she will review your application and assign it to the appropriate host university. If you have indicated more than one desired host university in your application (2nd and 3rd priority), you should also briefly justify these university preferences.
  • Current overview of grades from the online student service.

You do not need to have this overview confirmed by the Examination Office.

Students who are in the 1st semester of a bachelor's program at the time of application can submit the grade overview by May 15 (with a corresponding time delay for applications for the SoSe).

Students who are applying before or in the first master's semester, please submit the last grade overview from the bachelor's program.
  • Current certificate of enrollment

Please note:

These application documents will remain at the university and will not be forwarded to your host university. If you have any questions regarding the application documents, please come to the office hours (see info column on the right) or make another consultation appointment at the International Office. We will be happy to help you.

How to obtain a language certificate

If you are currently taking an appropriate foreign language course at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, you can have the course instructor issue you with the certificate. The language certificate should provide information about your knowledge of your main language of instruction at the host university. A form that can be used for this purpose can be found here:

Language Certificate Form

If you have a language certificate such as TOEFL, DELE or similar that is not older than 2 years, you can also submit this with your application.

All students who do not fall into the above groups can take a language test in English, French or Spanish at the Berlitz language school in Magdeburg. The test costs 55 euros. You will receive a receipt which you can then submit to the International Office at Magdeburg-Stendal University for reimbursement.

Please make an appointment in advance:

Berlitz Language School
Hasselbachplatz 3
39104 Magdeburg

magdeburg@berlitz.de
Tel: 0391/541 4688

For reimbursement, please submit the following application, an invoice plus proof of payment or the receipt for the language test fees. Proof of the reason for the language certificate is also required. The Erasmus application itself or reference to an existing Erasmus application will serve as proof.

Request for reimbursement

In Stendal, Angret Zierenberg, English lecturer and coordinator of foreign language training at the Stendal site, and Ms Bianca Weber, teacher of ABWL/Business English, will also issue you with a language certificate using the above-mentioned form.

After the Application

At the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences
  • The ECTS-officers make a selection from the applications received and assign the applicants* to the respective partner universities. The main selection criteria are: academic performance, motivation and language skills.
  • The International Office nominates the selected applicants to the partner universities within six to eight weeks after the application deadline.
  • The partner universities decide (on the basis of a separate application, see below) who will be admitted to the program.
  • All admitted students receive detailed information from the International Office around April, including information on the Erasmus+ mobility grant and insurance issues.
  • Around August/September the first installment of the mobility grant will be paid.

In the case of applications for a later start of the study abroad program, this procedure applies with a corresponding time delay.

Note:

Please note that the application documents you submit for selection at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences will not be sent to the host universities. You will have to apply there again separately.

If you do not receive a message from the host university in time for the nomination (you will be notified by us), it is advisable to look for the relevant information yourself on their websites or, in case of doubt, to contact the International Office there. If you do not receive any information at all, please contact the International Office of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences.

The application information almost always includes information on how to find accommodation in the host country.

At the host university

After the nomination (see above), in most cases the host university will contact the applicants directly. It is then necessary to apply again directly to the host university. The host university will inform you how to do this and by when.

During and after the end of the study

During the course of and after the end of your study abroad program, you will still need to submit various supporting documents and reports. You will receive further information about this after your application has been received. Once all the necessary supporting documents have been submitted, you will receive the 2nd installment of the mobility grant. Upon completion of your studies abroad, you will receive a Transcript of Records (Zeugnis) from your host university about your academic achievements abroad, which forms the basis for their recognition at your home university.

Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement is a central document for your study stay and the basis for the later recognition of the study achievements abroad. It lists the courses you will take at the host university and how they will be recognized upon your return and is signed by yourself, your ECTS representative and a representative of the host university.

Depending on how far the digitalization of the Erasmus program has progressed at the time of your application, the Learning Agreement will be exchanged as a document or circulated directly and exclusively digitally via the Erasmus-Without-Paper-Network.

Accordingly, you will receive the current form from the International Office of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences or create your Learning Agreement in your Mobility Online account, which you opened when applying for the program.

You will receive further information from the International Office of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences after your nomination at the host university.

Financial support

Notice

Participation in the program does not necessarily entail financial support. Since only a certain quota of funding is made available to each institution, no financial support is possible if the funding allocated to the institution is exhausted. However, the other benefits of the program (e.g., tuition waivers) may still be available in this case (zero-grant mobility).

Although we aim to provide financial support to all admitted participants as well, funding cannot be guaranteed in individual cases. The fact that no mobility grant can be paid is especially possible for applications submitted by the July deadline. Available funding will be awarded to admitted participants in the order in which complete application materials are received by the International Office.

Long-term mobilities

Financial support is based on the different cost of living in the destination countries.

Funding practice at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences - Project 2021

All confirmed days of stay will be funded with the above rates for the different destination countries. Please note that only days actually spent abroad can be funded.

For example, for a stay at a partner university in Belgium for 130 days, a total amount of € 1,690.00 will be paid (390:30*130).

Top-ups:

Green travel: €50 per mobility plus funding for up to 4 additional travel days if needed due to green transportation; only if no separate travel grant is paid; can be combined with any other top-up.

If the starting point of the trip is not Magdeburg or Stendal, the starting point must be proven by receipt.

Here, too, Green Travel can fund up to 4 additional travel days with the above-mentioned daily rate, if these are required due to the environmentally friendly means of transport.

Linguistic support

The European Commission provides an online language test for most European languages. This is mandatory for all students/graduates (does not apply to native speakers) to take in the working language (if the language is offered) before the start of the mobility.

The test is not a selection criterion for funding in the Erasmus+ program. It is intended to serve as a placement test to document their current language level after the selection of participants to be funded in Erasmus+.

The EU Commission also licenses online language courses in the above languages to universities, which are made available to a certain percentage of participants based on their test results.

Possibilities for language preparation in Magdeburg can be found here (tab "Language Preparation").
